March 24, 2020: Work for Wednesday March 25

Language Arts:

6th grade:  Tuesday March 24, 2020.
“Be strong and courageous!  Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”  Joshua 1:9

Journals: Continue writing in your journal.  You need not send me each day’s journal entries.  You can save them up and send them on Thursdays.

Shurley English:  Chapter 9 Lesson 4.  Read pages 278-279. Complete CP 42 & Homework 7 p.281.  Only complete the “Family Activity for Quotations”. You may choose one from the three activities to complete.  CP 42 and Family Activity for Quotations are due Wednesday 3/25/2020 

Literature:  
Chapter 2 Questions Due 3/24/2020
Literature homework for Tuesday 3/24/2020.  Read chapter 3. Answer the following questions in complete sentences. 
  1. What happened to Cassie, her brothers, and their friends as they walked to school on a rainy and muddy morning?
  2. How did they make sure it wouldn't happen again?
  3. From whose point of view is the story being told?
  4. Why do you think Mr. Grimes goes out of his way to get the black children dirty?
  5. How do you feel about the way the black children were educated in the 1930s?

You can also access this book for free on YouTube.  Just type in the title and audiobook and you should see a large selection.  

Remember to continue to work on the Independent Novel packet.  You will need to record in your reading log and write down vocabulary words you are unfamiliar with and then define them. 

Vocab:  Unit 10 Vocabulary TEST  is assigned for this week through Sadlier.  You should have your passwords. If you encounter problems let me know.  You will have from Monday 3/23 8:00 am until Friday 3/27 at 5:00 pm.
Many of you have told me that you used to take the test online with Mrs. Gastmeier.  I figured we could try that and see how it works.

Read Chapter 4 and answer the following questions

Questions:  Answer in complete sentences.

  1. Based on his words and actions in this chapter, describe T.J.’s personality.  How do you feel about him? 

  1. Why do you think Stacey keeps his distance from Mr. Morrison at first?  Why do you think he later changes his mind about Mr. Morrison?

  1. Why do you think Mr. Morrison decides not to tell Mrs. Logan about the kids going to the Wallace store?  Why do you think Stacey decides to tell her himself?

  1. Based on the long conversation Big Ma has with Cassie, why do you think she is so determined not to sell the family’s land to the Grangers?

  1. Why do you think Mrs. Logan decided to take the children to see Mr. Berry?
