Language Arts:

6th grade:  Thursday April 2, 2020.

Journals: Continue writing in your journal.  You need not send me each day’s journal entries.  You can save them up and send them on Thursdays.

Shurley English: Complete CP 44.  due Thursday April 2, 2020. Homework:  Review the Shurley Jingles that we have covered ( 1-23).   You can find them on YouTube or you can Google them.  You do not have to sit through all 23 at one time, Break it up into the following groups:  1-8, 9-13, 14-18, 19-23.  Practice your Classifying sentences with the Practice Sentence on pages 274, 278, & 282.  Keep this activity fresh in your minds.  This assignment will continue as Friday’s homework as well.  If you get bored over Spring Break, listen to the jingles and classify a couple sentences.  No CPs.  We will begin Chapter 10 after break. :)

Literature: Roll of Thunder (ROTHMC)  Chapter 7 questions 4-6 due TODAY
Homework:  Chapter 7 Questions continued. Answer the following questions in complete sentences.

7. What significant thing does Jeremy do in this chapter, and why do you think he does it?  What personality traits does this show?
8. State whether you agree or disagree with this statement, and explain why:  Although Jeremy seems timid and fearful, he is actually rather brave.
9. What is Mr. Logan’s attitude toward Stacey’s friendship with Jeremy, and why do you think he has this attitude?  What foreshadowing is there in his comments about blacks who hang around with whites?

Watch the following clip about Segregation and Jim Crow laws.  Pay special attention to the narrator and the dates given.  Jot down a few notes and thoughts as you view.  Write down any feelings you may have.  Do not turn this in to me.  We will continue with this Thursday.

In place of your journal entry today, I want you to respond to what you viewed in the two clips.  In a paragraph of at least 6 sentences, tell me what you are feeling and what kind effect the images and words had on you. Do you think segregation is still alive today?

Remember to continue to work on the Independent Novel packet.  You will need to record in your reading log and complete any unfamiliar vocabulary.
