Science: Please check your school email for the assignment titled, “STEM Challenge.” I also sent this to your parents’ emails that are on file with the school. Here are the main directions of the assignment…

Believe it or not, many, many years ago, kids had to use their imaginations if they wanted to play. They didn’t have games, toys, or video games at their fingertips. They didn’t have team sports to occupy their time like today. If they wanted to play, they had to come up with their own ideas and make their own toys. They couldn’t just run to the store every time that they wanted something to do. Girls were designing and making things like homemade dolls and puppets, and boys engineered and built things like tops, checkers, and forts. They were doing STEM even back in those days.

Right now, you are going through a unique time in life where we are supposed to be social distancing. Our normal lives have been put on hold. Over the next two weeks, I want you to use your imagination much like the kids back in the old days did, but with modern ideas and materials.

This STEM challenge is for you to design and create a toy, game, or activity of your own.

Here are the rules:

It must be made from recycled or repurposed materials that you already have at home. Do NOT go buy new materials.

It must have a MINIMUM of 7 steps in the process.

You CANNOT just alter something that is premade. This must be completely made by you.

It can be made to play with by one person or multiple people.

Send in a picture of YOU and your creation by Friday, May 8th.

A video of how it works would also be a plus!

You will find some pictures of ideas in your email. You may use one of them OR you can come up with one of your own. Be creative and involve your family if you’d like.

Spanish: COMPLETE the attached review worksheet for Unit 3.  Print and write out your answers or write on a separate sheet of paper.  Take a pic and send to me.

Last Day of Week!!!!!!!!!

It was great to see 21 of you this morning on our Zoom Meeting.  Remember you can communicate with each other over Zoom, Facetime, Microsoft Teams, ect....  You don't need me to set a time.  It is also a great way to do homework together.  Check with your classmates, I know several are looking for study buddies.  This distance thing is old and we all want to be with people other than those under our roof.  It's not that we don't love them, it's just that we are ready for variety.

Here we go with the assignments:

I think it’s even more important to celebrate this year in the midst of all the negative things happening around the world.Directions: Choose three of the following activities/assignments that interest you, and complete them by Friday, April 24th (with or without your family). Once, you have completed ALL 3 assignments send me a picture/email of what you created, or what you learned while in the process of completing it. The more creative the better. Language Arts: 6th Grade April 24, 2020  Brain Break Friday

Hooray it’s Friday!!

Today I want to take a break from our traditional learning and do an activity that has us stepping away from the novel we are reading, Shurley English, Vocabulary and Journal entries.  Below is a link from Scholastic and I want you to focus only on Week 1 Day 1.  There are 4 articles that you will be able to read in “Week 1 Day 1”.  The main article is titled “Celebrating Differences”  it is about a girl who has part of her arm missing and her prosthetic limb.  The other 3 articles are below the main article.  “Cozy Camouflage”, “Future of Zoos” and “All About Emojis”
You must read “Celebrating Differences” and then you can choose one of the other three.  After you have completed the reading you will complete 1 of the assignments at the end of each article.  (So read 2 articles, and only complete one assignment.)  At the end of the articles there is a section titled “Continue the Learning Journey”.  This is where the assignment is located. In the “Cozy Camouflage” article the assignment is titled “Finding Proportions”. This assignment has 7 proportions that you will find based on the chart above the 7 questions.  This one is more for those math-minded-kiddos.  The other assignments deal with writing and art. If you pick a written response assignment, make sure you are writing in complete sentences.  Your response must be at least 6-7 sentences in length.  The graphic novel (comic) assignment should be printed from the link, completed, and then send a picture to my email. The other assignments can be word documents.  This Friday Brain Break is due Monday. 4/27/2020
Take a break and learn about something new.  We will continue with the literature/Shurley/Vocab/Journals next week.
Have a great weekend.
Miss you.

And just for fun….
